Reinhold "Reini" Schmölzer

Reinhold Schmölzer was born in November 1983. Raised up in Radenthein, he began his musical education at the local music school of Spittal/Drau, where he could gain experience in symphonic string orchestras, brass bands, big bands and smaller classical as well as jazz bands. His former teachers where the ones who sparked Reinhold´s interest in music, whereupon he delved into his jazz studies in Klagenfurt (Carinthian State Conservatory), Graz (University for music and dramatic arts Graz) and Berlin (Jazzinstitute Berlin).

He toured around Europe and did studio productions, shared stage or arranged/composed with/for artists and bands like David Helbock Trio, Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, HR-Bigband Frankfurt, Michael Erian, Croatian Radiotelevision Jazz Orchestra (Zagreb-Croatia), Rob Bargad, Jaka Kopac, Jazzdock Orchestra (Prag - Tschechien), Wayne Darling, Julian Argüelles, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra feat. Since 2019 Reinhold Schmölzer is teaching „Jazz Arrangement/ Komposition“ at the „Gustav Mahler Privatuniversität Klagenfurt“ (GMPU) in the south of Austria.

In 2002 he was invited to “1st Austrian Drums & Percussion-Youth-Contest 2002” (Feldkirch/Vbg.), where he won 1st award in category solo-drums. In the same year Reinhold became the scholarship “L’Encourangement 2002“ of Kiwanis Club Spittal/Drau. In 2006 „University of music and daramtic arts“ granted him a support scholarship, which made it possible to stay in New York City. In spring 2012 Reinhold was awarded with the prestigious „DOWNBEAT Student Music Awards“ for his arrangement of „Lotus Flower“ (Radiohead), which can also be found on his Debut Album „Miraculous Loss Of Signal“, released in November 2012 on UNIT Records. Reinhold was also supported by Federal State Carinthia (Music Support Grant 2014) and by The Austrian Federal Chancellery (Outstanding Artist Award 2017).

In February 2013 Reinhold was invited to participate at „Metropole Orchestra Arrangers Workshop“ (NL), which was led by Vince Mendoza. There he got chance to arrange one song of featured solist Richard Bona.
